MOVA Brewing Company from Ukraine enters the Dutch market

MOVA Brewing Co.

MOVA Brewing Co. is a Ukrainian brewery based in Dnipro that sees beer as the perfect means of communication. “MOVA” means “language” in Ukrainian, and that meaning goes far beyond one or two spoken tongues. Through the process of brewing connections, they have created exceptional beer—turning each glass into a story, a conversation, and a shared moment of joy.

The Beginning

The story began in 2017 when three men shared an interest in organizing a beer festival in Dnipro. That year, the first Craft Culture Festival took place, which has since become an annual charity event.

It inspired them to create their own beer with the goal of reviving the city’s beer culture. Later that year, MOVA was born with its first beer, Winter ESB, and things quickly accelerated from there. Today, MOVA has its own facility capable of producing 150,000 liters per month—and production is still growing.

Growth and Development

Despite current challenges and difficulties, the team continues to grow, introducing new product lines and side projects. Examples include lemonades featuring Ukrainian children’s artwork on the label, the BEER SPACE restaurant, and several MOVA BARs across the city.

With the help of local experts, they created the Museum of Brewing in Dnipro, published a book titled History of Brewing in Dnipro, and revived the Beer of City Dnipro project. The taste of the latter was selected through anonymous voting among locals and visitors alike, making it truly the taste of Dnipro. In addition to Craft Culture, MOVA organizes other themed festivals and sports events—all for a good cause.

MOVA’s Motto

MOVA’s motto is sincerity. From the transparent glass walls of their brewery to their interaction with partners and customers, openness is at the heart of what they do. They export beer to Norway, Denmark, Poland, the Netherlands—and the team isn’t stopping there. MOVA is pushing boundaries and aiming to prove that beer with a Ukrainian soul deserves its place on the world beer map—while building relationships between people from different countries.

Awards and Collaborations

In 2019, Stout I and Hercules Porter took home gold and silver, respectively, at Hop Cup Ukraine. The first international awards came in 2020, when Stout Vanilla won bronze at both the East European Beer Award and the Barcelona Beer Challenge.

In 2023, they brewed Side By Side IPA in collaboration with friends from the U.S. (Stone Brewing) to support victims of war in Ukraine. Later, MOVA partnered with the UK’s Azvex Brewing Co. for Eurovision’s Beer Together project and brewed IPA Magic Stick for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool.

That same year, MOVA’s Dark Non-Alcoholic Beer won gold at Europe’s oldest beer competition—the European Beer Star.

Taste the Variety

You can taste a wide range of beer styles from this brewery: Lager, Oatmeal Stout, Vanilla Stout, IPA, Blanche, Pilsner, Amber Ale, Beer of City Dnipro, and more. And the team continues to create collaborative craft beers in Ukraine and around the world.

Verkrijgbaarheid

MOVA Brewing Company’s beers will be available for tasting at the Ukrainian Lucht Festival in Amsterdam this August. In spring 2025, the brewery—together with Brabant Brew Imports—hopes to become more widely available across the Netherlands.

It’s not the first time Ukrainian beer has entered the Dutch market. Back in 2022, Chernigivske (part of AB InBev) was launched in several countries to raise money for humanitarian aid.
